Award In Youth Work Principles

12 x 2hr sessions, plus a 12hr supervised placement and 1:1 support. The course will cover the following: - 1: Introduction - youth work values and the National Occupational Standards. - 2: Models of youth work- Exploring different models of youth work delivery - 3: Communication in youth work - How to communicate with young people effectively and how to improve their communication skills - 4: Establishing Youth Work - How to establish youth work in a new area - 5: Understanding adolescence - Understanding the cognitive and physical changes that take place during adolescence - 6: Anti-discriminatory practice - Identifying the ways that our own prejudices impact our youth work, how to overcome these and how to build a culture of anti-discriminatory practice - 7: Safeguarding part 1 - Identifying the categories of abuse, their signs and symptoms and how to respond to disclosures - 8: Safeguarding part 2 - An overview of the ways in which children and young people can be exploited (with particular reference to CSE and CCE) - 9: Challenging behaviour - Understanding the root causes of challenging behaviour and how to respond appropriately - 10: E-safety - Understanding the risks posed to young people online and best practice to keep young people safe - 11: Legislation and self-care: An overview of the latest legislation related to youth work and how to ensure that youth workers look after their own mental, emotional and physical health - 12: Health and safety: How to write and implement risk assessments for young people and youth work activities For more information please contact: Romsey Mill 01223 213162"
